clay chariot model with two horses and warriors, Cypro-Archaic period (around 650-550 BC), Ovgoros

19.4.22 Ovgoros.

From Salamis to Gastria, driving along the coast, the development is chaotic. Identical grey blocks of apartments and villas, standing one next to the other, built to be quickly sold to foreigners at a cheap price. Ugly gigantic buildings, often abandoned and standing like ghosts, and a huge plastic waterpark, soulless. Ovgoros on the other hand is situated above all this, on the plateaus of Pentadaktylos, behind Davlos. The tranquillity of the area, as I ascend the mountain, is singular. Pentadaktylos embraces the village, the hills spread out in the light, the wheat fi elds move in waves. A Turkish Cypriot village, the people here were not forced to leave, one feels the continuity and how this seems to give the area a special calmness.
