clay figurine of the Mycenaean ‘Psi’ (Ψ) type, late Bronze Age (12th c. BC), Kition-Kathari

31.3.22 Ancient Kition, modern-day Larnaka.

Visiting the renovated museum I experience the importance of Kition as the centre of the region. I am amazed by the beautiful sculptures from Arsos, the fragmentation of the island with all the new barricades is such that only now do I come to fully realise the contiguity of the geographical space. Close by, the ruins of the archaeological site adjoin the neighbourhoods of the modern city. A little boy walks with his father among the ruins. I am thinking of how, on this land, we encounter our roots and our history with every step we take.
