clay figure of a seated, wreathed young man holding a bird, Cypro-Classical period (4th c. BC), Polis Chrysochous (ancient Marion)

8.8.21 Akamas from the mouth of the Chrysochou River.

I arrived at the Chrysochou River delta, where the beloved eucalyptus forest lies, at the most beautiful time, late in the afternoon. I made this watercolour while drinking a brandy sour and as the sun was hiding behind the mountain I dived into the cool waters. Where the river meets the beach, there is a clay deposit of a clear beige colour. Years ago, I made some pottery and fired it in the embers of the fire that we had lit in the evening to cook our meal. I still use those vessels.
