Greek alphabetic inscription on marble, dedicated to the mother of gods, 2nd c. BC, Akanthou

20.9.21 Akanthou as seen from Anerades.

An area that offers endless gifts, along the beaches I gather, during springtime, wild edible greens, the new leaves of the statice flowers and the young milk thistle plants, my favourite. The area’s gentle plateaus are filled with cyclamen of a pink fuchsia colour. The site is full of myths, because here Pentadaktylos is steep but approachable, shaped in sculptural forms, inviting one to discovery. From Anerades where I stood that day, I could distinguish Thkiatrypitos, the opening high up on the rocky top of the mountain, a natural window which overlooks both the Mesaoria plain in the south and the Keryneia sea in the north.
