curse or magic spell inscribed on marble to prevent the looting of a tomb (Greek alphabetic inscription), 1st or 2nd c. AD, Agios Sergios

6.9.21 Agios Sergios, Salamis, the caravan of my dreams.

At Agios Sergios, I stayed on the sixth floor of a neglected, once luxurious hotel, as the sole occupant. I drew this watercolour from the balcony of my room. Every morning I walked the beach from Agios Sergios to Egkomi and back. The beauty of the red sand and of the crystal-clear turquoise water. Sweet smelling white lilies in full bloom. A wide welcoming bay, the sun rises red like a king from its centre. The area overlooks all of eastern Cyprus as far as the tip of Karpasia. The location has an exquisite energy. A few kilometres further my grandfather’s house sits within the enclosed city. If I am allowed, I will return.
