amphora of bichrome ware with elaborate floral and geometric painted decoration, Cypro-Archaic i period (750-600 BC), Peristerona (Ammochostos District)

4.9.21 Sunset behind Pentadaktylos as seen from Peristerona, Ammochostos.

I approached Peristerona in the late afternoon, coming from Lefkonoiko. I stopped at its abandoned church, a tree had grown high on its front wall, in the middle of the narthex, between the two aisles. Such sad beauty. The belfry full of pigeons, the entrance crumbling, I did not dare enter, I only saw blasphemous graffiti, the genitals of a man; outside, on the wall erased letters, in black I distinguished… BECAUSE…, in blue EOKA. I entered the village and stopped in a fi eld a little further on. Dogs were barking, Pentadaktylos was cooling the sun that burned before me. I tried to note down the moment.
