stone figurine, Pre-Pottery Neolithic period (around 9000 BC), Agia Varvara-Asprokremmos

6.5.21 Agia Varvara/Alampra, the view from the acropolis.

From the highest point of Agia Varvara, where there is a church today, I can gaze at the two mountain ranges, Pentadaktylos and Troodos, as from Alampra, situated close by. I can also see the Potamia plateau and Dali. I understand, by observing the view, how the area has control over the surrounding fertile plain, and also how it visually communicates with the other settlements, to its north and to its south. Earlier in the spring, the place turns red with poppies.
